Excellent Band Names

Admit it, you've thought and / or said 'That would make an excellent band name' more than one time in your life. Usually when you've heard a somewhat ridiculous combination of words. I catch myself saying it all the time. Purely for my own amusement, I'm going to keep a running list of Most Excellent Band Names that occur in my life. Feel free to share yours too!

HEY Y'ALL (dialect vlog)

*I do not say "hey y'all" in this video. I am not from the south, much as I may want to be.*

This vlog was inspired by my friend Natalie over at Mommy Boots, who also did one of these vlogs. I think they're fun, so here's mine. See below the video for the words, the questions, and a list of other folks who have done this too! If you do one, please leave me a comment with the link and also tell me where you're from; I love to hear how other people pronounce things.

I noticed one error when I watched this after recording it; when talking about what I called my grandparents, instead of saying "my mother's parents / father's parents" or "my maternal grandparents / paternal grandparents", I TOTALLY referred to them as "my mother's grandparents" and "my father's grandparents". I really WAS talking about THEIR parents, MY grandparents. Durrr. Sorry. LOL.

Here is the list of words, and also the list of questions :

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Other people that have posted a dialect video:

Mommy Boots (from Chicago, now living in Chattanooga)
Ashley Getting Dressed (from a rural area about an hour north of St. Louis, Missouri)
Pickles & Paisleys (from Charleston, SC)
She's Mommafied (grew up in Boston, now lives in New Hampshire)
Bravo Charlie Sierra (from Pittsburgh, PA)
Sara Kaisenberg (moved to Texas when she was four, but learned to talk in New York)

And just for fun, here's a dialect video my husband and I made TWO YEARS AGO, together, with a different list of words! (He's from Miami, FL; I'm from Chicago, IL; we're both living in Chicagoland at the moment.)

Rockin', Tootin' Holidays

Every now and then I spend an inordinate amount of time playing around with videos over at JibJab. They have given me great joy over the years. It's things like this that make me love the internet. My kids love creating videos too, naturally. We spent several hours making videos today. Here are my two favorites.

WARNING: 12-year-old boy humor ahead! This never fails to make me laugh. From L to R is my daughter, my husband, our friend Justin, my brother, and me. I helped her pick 'farty' faces, but for the most part my daughter picked the people and put them in their places.

I made this one. My friends and I have taken far more "metal face" pictures than your average person probably does, and it really paid off here. I have probably watched this 20 times today and it just keeps bringing joy into my life.

15 Minutes Of Fame

That's me, Leslie, then me again!

Leslie and I made the front page! BOTH 'front' pages! Holy cow! You can read the accompanying newspaper story here (where you can see a picture of my hands and Leslie's profile, heh).

A million thanks to Leslie for taking the initiative when she saw that the Southtown Star was looking for super shoppers, because this was a really fun experience. We had a great time going around with Joe (the photographer), snagging and sharing deals.

I hope everyone is enjoying a happy, healthy, safe Thanksgiving holiday with their loved ones today!

Hall And Oates - They're Bed Creepers

I was looking at the Google Analytics strings of keywords that have brought people to my blog earlier today. It seems most people coming here trying to find out if Chiro One is a scam. I hope the two-part blog series I wrote about our experience with them is helpful to people considering whether to use them or not. It didn't surprise me at all that a large number of people are Googling to find out more about them; that's the first thing I did after I encountered the sales rep from the company.

What DID surprise me, or rather I should say what made me laugh (because precious little actually surprises me about the internet anymore), was this page of searches:

I didn't realize so many people wanted moms with young boys, and I'm not sure why they're ending up here, but I suspect that they're not getting exactly what they want. I DO have a young boy, a young cook at times even. He's six, and he's my son, and he's a great kid. I highly recommend having a kid like him.

The thing that really made me laugh though was the third one down. MOM! THERE'S HALL AND OATES UNDER MY BED! I didn't realize there was a BLOG dedicated to this phenomenon. It's certainly never happened to ME, although I did have one particularly traumatic experience where my MOM hid under my bed and scared the crap out of me. I suppose I'd be more likely to be shouting "HALL AND OATES! Mom's under my bed!!"

I just didn't realize this Hall and Oates problem was so prevalent. I guess they have a new song (to the tune of Man Eater): wooooah here we come... watch out boys, we'll chew you up... woaaahhhh here we come... we're bed-creepers!
